MixedRealities: Connectivism Course in Second Life: tools and experience could very well be the real content

Education has changed much in my part of the world. We've seen many schools adopting straight through program meaning they do not need to take the Cambridge PSLE Exams when they are 12 years old. They take it only when they're 16. Now we are even trying new schemes like having the exam only when you're 18. The polytechnics have also adopted a different approach with some of them grading students only based on their projects. There isn't a single test.

To me, applied knowledge is the most important of all. Many people spend too much time learning just to pursue certifications that only lead them to the door.

I think lifelong learning is important. Not so much academically. I've seen many successful business who didn't do well in school but really made a big impact in the market just by having high EQ.

I agree with the need to learn new things and connect with people. Unfortunately, with information being withheld and controlled, we are sometimes deprived of knowing the truth. We are just learning what the people in power want us to learn and not the real truth.

Kids nowadays are too pampered. I'm really worried for them. That's the reason a lot of them are tagged the Strawberry Generation, looking great at the outside but a real softee in the inside.

The younger generations is certainly very wired up. Its not only just a cool platform. I know of big corporations who are buying up that they call 'island' in Second Life, just for reaching out online with their products and services.

It’s true that knowledge that resides in database needs to be connected with the right people in the right context in order to be classified as learning.. As Shakespeare stated “Life is a stage where everyone has to play its part” and I guess that’s not possible without learning…

Experience is the best teacher. Our experience makes us more stronger in real life. We can be developed by hardships and trials. We learn from our mistakes that makes us a better one.
